MS 365 ERP for UAE Businesses: Choosing and Implementing Dynamics 365

Find the Right Dynamics 365 ERP for Your UAE Company

If you searched for MS 365 ERP, you are almost certainly looking for Microsoft Dynamics 365, not your Office subscription.

Four Practical Tools for Your ERP Decision

This page clears up the naming first. It then gives you a rule for choosing between Business Central and Finance and Supply Chain Management for a UAE or GCC company. It also covers four practical tools:

A readiness checklist for VAT, e-invoicing and Arabic

  • VAT return data, reverse charge and free zone entities
  • E-invoicing through an accredited service provider on Peppol
  • Arabic tax invoices, statements and reports tested in a demo

Is Microsoft 365 an ERP? What MS 365 ERP usually means

Quick answer: MS 365 ERP usually means Microsoft Dynamics 365, not Microsoft 365. Microsoft 365 is the productivity suite with Outlook, Teams and Excel. It is not an ERP. The ERP products in Dynamics 365 are Business Central, for small and mid-sized companies, and Finance and Supply Chain Management, for larger multi-entity groups. UAE buyers should choose by entity count, operational complexity, and VAT and e-invoicing needs.

Dynamics 365 apps are sold and licensed separately from Microsoft 365. On the ERP side there are two choices. The first is Business Central. The second is Dynamics 365 Finance with Supply Chain Management, which partners often call Finance and Operations or F&O.

Microsoft 365 vs Dynamics 365 at a glance

  • Microsoft 365 is productivity software: email, meetings, documents and files.
  • Microsoft Dynamics 365 is a family of business applications. Some of them are ERP and some are CRM.
  • The two meet in everyday tools. ERP data opens in Excel, records link to Outlook and Teams, and Power BI reports draw on ERP data.
  • A search for "ms 365 erp" refers to the ERP apps in Dynamics 365, not a Microsoft 365 plan.

Paying for Microsoft 365 does not give you an ERP

Your subscription runs email and documents. It holds no general ledger, stock records or VAT data. Dynamics 365 adds those records, and your finance team keeps working in the Excel and Teams tools it already knows.

Business Central or Finance and Supply Chain Management: which suits a UAE company?

Business Central suits UAE companies with a few legal entities and standard trading, distribution or service processes. Finance and Supply Chain Management suits groups that have one or more of the following:

  • Many entities across GCC countries
  • Complex manufacturing or supply chains
  • Shared services

Packaged ERP or Enterprise Pair

Your free zone and mainland structure, your currencies and your e-invoicing needs also shape the choice. Business Central is a packaged ERP solution. It brings financials, accounting, sales, purchasing, inventory and standard manufacturing into one system. Finance and Supply Chain Management is the enterprise pair. It is designed for global financials, complex supply chain management, production planning and intercompany trading at scale.

Use this rule to decide

  • Choose Business Central if you run a handful of entities that are mostly UAE-based, in trading or distribution, with standard processes.
  • Choose Finance and Supply Chain Management if you run many legal entities across GCC countries, heavy manufacturing, intercompany flows or shared services.

Free Zone and Mainland Groups

UAE groups often mix free zone and mainland companies. They typically use AED as the base currency, with USD and other GCC currencies alongside. Test how each product consolidates that structure, and whether you need Arabic on invoices and statutory reports. For delivery detail, see Business Central implementation in the UAE and Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations implementation and rollout.

What a Dynamics 365 ERP covers and how it connects to the Microsoft stack

Check that the ERP covers each of these areas for your business:

  • Finance and accounting, including general ledger, payables, receivables and fixed assets
  • Supply chain management, inventory and warehousing
  • Manufacturing and production planning
  • Project operations for project-based businesses
  • Human resources and payroll links
  • Reporting and analytics

The ERP connects to the rest of the Microsoft stack in four ways

  • Microsoft Azure hosts the cloud service.
  • Power Platform builds apps and approval workflows on ERP data.
  • Power BI handles dashboards and management reporting.
  • Copilot works inside the business applications themselves.

Dynamics 365 Project Operations

Project-based firms can use Dynamics 365 Project Operations. Microsoft ships regular updates for it. For example, Microsoft Learn lists the quality updates in the May 2026 release of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Project Operations Integrated with ERP.

UAE readiness checklist: VAT, e-invoicing, Arabic, AED and data hosting

Run this checklist against every shortlisted product and partner:

  • UAE VAT. Confirm the system produces VAT return data by emirate where required, handles reverse charge, and treats free zone and mainland entities correctly. Check designated zone treatment with your tax adviser.
  • E-invoicing. The UAE model runs on Peppol, with invoices exchanged through a service provider accredited under the Ministry of Finance's e-invoicing framework. Ask how the ERP connects to that provider, which data fields it must hold, and who maintains the connection.
  • Arabic. List where Arabic is needed: tax invoices, customer statements and reports. Test each one in a demonstration rather than accepting a verbal yes.
  • AED and currencies. Check AED as base currency, revaluation of USD and GCC currencies, and group consolidation across Dubai, Abu Dhabi and other GCC entities.
  • Data hosting. Ask which Microsoft Azure region will host your cloud environment. Our sector focus is banking and financial services, trading and manufacturing. We bring deep UAE & GCC knowledge to this work.

Moving off Dynamics NAV, GP, AX or SL: which path applies?

Each older Microsoft Dynamics product has a usual successor:

Dynamics NAV (Navision)

Usual path: Business Central. What to review first: Customisations and add-ons still in use.

Dynamics GP (Great Plains)

Usual path: Business Central. What to review first: Chart of accounts and history volume.

Dynamics AX (Axapta)

Usual path: Finance and Supply Chain Management. What to review first: Custom code, integrations, entity structure.

Dynamics SL (Solomon)

Usual path: Separate assessment, often against Business Central. What to review first: Project accounting needs.

Before moving off Dynamics NAV, Dynamics GP or Dynamics AX, answer five questions

  • Which customisations are still used, and by whom?
  • How many years of history must move, and how much can stay in an archive?
  • Which integrations must be rebuilt, such as banks, e-commerce or logistics?
  • Are the VAT and e-invoicing data fields already in place?
  • Is the move also a cloud migration, with new hosting and security decisions?

Start with a gap-fit review

Each customisation replaced by a standard feature is one less item to test and maintain after every update. We deliver NAV and GP migration to Business Central and the Dynamics AX upgrade to Dynamics 365.

What drives the cost and risk of a Dynamics 365 ERP project?

How much does Dynamics 365 ERP cost in the UAE?

Cost depends on several factors:

Ask each vendor to quote these lines separately in AED, so you can compare proposals on the same basis.

  • The product chosen
  • The number and type of users
  • How many entities and countries you run
  • Data migration volume
  • Integrations
  • The e-invoicing connection
  • The support model

A comparable quote for ERP software should separate the following

  • Licences
  • Implementation and configuration
  • Data migration
  • Integrations
  • E-invoicing connection
  • Testing
  • Training
  • Post-go-live support

Guard against the usual causes

Overruns are common. Panorama Consulting's 2026 ERP Report, as reported by Visionet, found that "more than a quarter of organizations exceed their original project budgets".

Each of these pushes work into testing, where changes cost the most.

  • Unclear scope
  • Heavy customisation
  • Late data cleansing
  • VAT or e-invoicing requirements found after design
  • Weak user training

These choices lower risk

Schedule cutover away from month-end close and VAT return deadlines, so finance is not running two jobs at once.

  • Standard processes first
  • A phased rollout by entity
  • Early VAT and e-invoicing design
  • A support plan agreed before go-live

How to choose a Dynamics 365 ERP partner in Dubai or Abu Dhabi

Ask every partner these five questions:

  • Which Microsoft partner status do you hold for Dynamics 365?
  • Can you show UAE VAT and e-invoicing design on the product we are buying?
  • Who on your team will run our project, and are they in the UAE?
  • How will you migrate our NAV, GP or AX data?
  • What support do we get after go-live, and at what hours?

FAQs

No. Microsoft 365 is Microsoft's productivity suite, covering Outlook, Teams, Word and Excel. The ERP products sit in Microsoft Dynamics 365. Business Central is for small and mid-sized companies, and Finance and Supply Chain Management is for larger groups. They connect to Microsoft 365, so ERP data can be used in Excel, Outlook and Teams.

Yes. Dynamics 365 is a family of business applications, and two of its product lines are full ERP systems. The first is Business Central. The second is Finance with Supply Chain Management, often called Finance and Operations. Other apps in the family, such as Sales and Customer Service, are CRM and connect to the ERP apps. The view that Dynamics 365 is "just a CRM" usually comes from meeting the Sales app first. Finance and Supply Chain Management is the successor to Dynamics AX, which is built for multi-entity groups.

Neither is better in general. Dynamics 365 tends to suit companies already standardised on Microsoft 365 and Azure, because users stay in familiar tools. The deciding factors are fit to your processes, the partner's delivery capacity in the UAE, and the total effort your team must commit. Compare these on your own processes, not on brand reputation.

Agentic ERP is an ERP system in which AI agents carry out defined tasks within the rules and permissions the business sets. Examples include routing approvals, matching invoices and flagging exceptions. In the Microsoft stack, Copilot works inside Dynamics 365, and custom agents are built with Copilot Studio. Start with one narrow, rule-based task, such as matching supplier invoices to receipts, and keep a person approving exceptions. We offer AI and Copilot advisory and build AI agents with Copilot Studio. The ERP design still comes first, because an agent only works as well as the data it reads.

Both Dynamics 365 ERP products can be set up for UAE VAT, including returns and reverse charge. Arabic needs should be confirmed for each invoice, statement and report during design, then tested in a demonstration. UAE e-invoicing also needs a connection to a service provider accredited under the Ministry of Finance's framework.

As of 2026, 1,284 verified companies use Microsoft Dynamics ERP "across industries, company sizes, and geographies", according to Landbase. A count tells you little about fit, though. Ask each partner for references in your own sector and of a similar size. Then speak to those references directly about scope, budget and support after go-live.
